Frenzy

Cloud formations on the flight from Tokyo to LA. Taken in the sky July 16, 2005.
I am so tired right now and eager to go to bed, but I could not resist doing a bit of writing after spending the entire evening in a creative frenzy. I worked on numerous collages – many in my collage books but a few for my "Tokyo Box" as well. This Tokyo Box idea is a new idea I am exploring, so this one is the experiment. I might not like how it turns out, but it is fun having a loose vision and going with it.
I brought more of my art supplies from our house in Solvang to LA. I now have more paints, pens and pencils, fabrics, rubber stamps and all kinds of tape. Naturally I had to get it all organized today. I did this in the midst of cleaning my house in anticipation of my girlfriend Melissa arriving tomorrow from Philly for a week-long visit. I sharpened every single pencil, threw out dried up pens, and got everything organized and put away yet completely accessible. Once it was all done and I finished dinner, I was on the loose and creating like crazy. I can’t say this is still jet lag, per se, this staying up late. I think my jet lag lingered for so long, and because I didn’t fight it or try to combat it with sleeping pills, I might have just shifted myself into a new routine. I was much more nocturnal years ago, staying up until at least 2:00am every night and getting so much done in the peace and quiet. I’m not sure I want to shift that far into the night, but I have enjoyed the past week with the late nights and time to myself.
I spent the evening getting messy, giving myself gold fingerprints and ink-stained hands, and now I am off to bed, ready to slumber deeply.
