I believe you'll be able to do this. I believe you'll find your answer. You are so insightful and courageous and intellegent. I can't see you NOT being absolutely brillant and alive and 2006.

I struggle too with some of the things you have wrote about. I then remind myself to be grateful. And I am. I had no idea I would in this place. Balance is a tricky thing. Keep up the great work in 2006!

"I am juggling not despair but abundance. I am grappling not with loss but with creation." Thank you for this reminder. You've written some fabulous posts since jumping into blogging with both feet...I think this might be one of my favorites. Maybe because it hits so close to home. When one lives with an artist of any kind, the tendency can be to think that his (in my case, a "his" who's a performing artist) work takes priority because, well, it's public...and it's creating art. But here's what I've come to believe over the years (I may not play it out in my everyday life yet, but I do possess the belief): there's ENOUGH for BOTH of us to feel fulfilled to our capacity. And yes, it requires juggling...and yes, it requires compromise (what relationship doesn't?) Here's what I've learned in my middle age: if the relationship is on solid ground--rock solid--then it will always be the #1 priority, even if surface schedules make it appear otherwise. For me it becomes about quality over quantity...not necessarily doing more, but making better choices. The relationship becomes the foundation from which I can launch myself into the world...it's my BASE...the place to which I return...the place to which I come back to recharge and renew and glory in the unique magic that happens only between the two of us. That's all just a long-winded way of saying: go for it, Swirly! Run as hard and fast as you can toward whatever dreams you see on your horizon...if you're with the right person, no matter how far you run, you'll look to the side and see your mate is still right there with you...

Balancing it all. This is the hard part isn't it? I believe we must find some balance within before there can be balance outside of us. You are reminding me of this once again. And to know that you are blessed. Even in the moments that may not seem like blessings, to be grateful for where you are, what you have, who you are becoming. So good.

I consider this a bonus post as I did not expect you to do another before the end of this year :)
I believe that the best we can do for and in our relationships is be ourselves. If we have found that wonderous place within where the well that is our soul is filled with quiet confidence, sense of purpose and the knowledge that we will always be ok on our own - that's when we have the capacity to be the best partner we can, that's when we can build a relationship based on substance rather than balance.
How do we fill the well? By doing what we love and getting good at it. You already know what you love doing and you are already pretty darn good at it. You have already showed up at the right place. Have a look around. And continue making it YOUR place. Because I am sure that THIS is what your husband to be loves about you. He is a lucky man!
Happy New Year, again :) Kerstin
