Catching Up

April 19, 2006

Tape

Much of February, all of March and now the first part of April have been a mad blur of activity and events.  Now that things are beginning to settle down, I am adjusting to the feeling that I now have twice as much time as I had before we moved.  I did not realize how draining it was to live between two homes, getting in the car every Friday afternoon and returning every Monday morning with laptop, books, art supplies and other odds & ends in tow.  Between these new reservoirs of time, a new house, going to Cuba and a few other personal, significant circumstances, a few unexpected thoughts and emotions have surfaced and I’ve lately been a tad moody (yet trying to keep that to myself.)  It is as if I am in the middle of a warm ocean and I know I need to just relax and tread for a while and accept that it is a little bit uncomfortable.  I’ll get back to land soon.  It is only a matter of time, I am a strong swimmer, and I know I need to just let myself float through this quietly.  If I could see myself from high above – see a larger view of where I am – I know it would look beautiful and I would realize I have nothing to worry about.  There are many questions bubbling to the surface of my consciousness…many questions and ideas indeed…but really, it is quite exciting.  More than anything I’m ever so grateful for some much-needed down time for the rest of this month.

A few goings on in my website and elsewhere…

* 52 Figments :: I know the postings of my questions got a tad out of whack while I was traveling and moving, but I am now back on track with a new question every Monday.  The image galleries for all weeks so far are updated and in flickr, and I have updated the 52 Figments pages on my website.  Check them out!

* 500 Creations :: The last time I checked in with this I had hit the 100 mark.  This was more than a month ago and since then I have not had any studio time.  I did, however, fill an entire journal and take about 1000 photographs in Cuba so I’m giving myself 50 "points" for that.  The next update will be this Friday.

* Gallery News :: My show at Peach Tree Pottery has been extended (and new pieces were hung today!), so if you live in the LA area, be sure to check it out.  Another show for my next round of creations might be in the works – I’ll keep you posted.

* Online Shopping :: This will most likely be down for another month or so, but during that time I’ll be organizing a special one-week-only event for some Old Skool Swirly Booty that I need to clear out of my closet!!  It’s not doing the world any good sitting in boxes, now is it?!  Stay tuned…

* Cuba Stories & Photos ::  More will continue to be posted, I imagine for a few weeks.  I’m so glad everyone has been enjoying what I have written about the experience so far.

Tremendous thanks to everyone who has cheered me on these past many weeks.  I am eager to see where my work goes from here and look forward to continuing to share it each week.

"To-day is not yesterday: we ourselves change; how can our Works and Thoughts, if they are always to be the fittest, continue always the same? Change, indeed, is painful; yet ever needful; and if Memory have its force and worth, so also has Hope."

I love the idea of looking at yourself from high above, there is a lot of comfort in that.
You have been through so much change yourself and I always admire the focus and relentless determination with which you swim through your ocean. Do tread for a bit, you deserve it!
By the way, I finally got around to hanging up some pictures in our flat and your collage found its way into our bedroom and whilst I am writing this from my bed I have a good view of it; it gives me great comfort as always :)
