So Ordinary
May 24, 2006
I found this oddity on a beach in Mexico this year, and I’m still not sure what it was. It appeared to be some kind of alien melding of a sand dollar and an exceptionally delicate egg. I have never seen anything like it in all of my years of treasure hunting on various beaches (I still have a small collection of shark’s teeth I found as a kid in North Carolina) and it was a fascinating object to examine for the short time I had it.
It looks like the sun has finally decided to shower us with warmth here on the west side of LA, and the beauty of the last two days has been down right exhilarating. I look outside my window and find myself sitting up straighter, unable to prevent a smile from coming across my face, enjoying the way the sun brightens up the leaves, the trees and the flowers.
I am slowly but surely getting back into work mode, starting with getting my online store back up and running. I’m so excited to be able to now offer archival quality prints from my Girl Series and will be adding more as new work is created. A new Inspiration Board is beginning to come together and I’ve added a bundle of new journal pages for my 500 Creations project. The last time I checked in I had reached 180. Since then I’ve added 6 girl illustrations and 11 journal pages, worked on a canvas, designed my wedding invitations, and created three new Swirly check designs for my agent, which brings me to 202.
That is my day today – a beautifully mundane day with blue skies and sunshine, an updated website, lunch with my love (a rare occasion), a postcard from Kate, a trip to the grocery store and the dry cleaners and now, a short walk upstairs to my living room where my book and my couch await me.
"The art of art, the glory of expression and the sunshine of the light of letters, is simplicity." – Walt Whitman

It’s a sea urchin test (that’s what you call the leftovers when the spines are gone). Sand dollars are alos sea urchins, just a different species.
We call then kina here in NZ
oh yes! yay for the return of the sun– my god– it is the life force, non?
I’m just coming out a slump myself and finally feeling back into a work mode. It’s such a relief.
On a professional note, would you mind sharing how you are going about making the archival prints you’re selling? I want to make affordable prints of my work available too, and I’m researching various methods.
Thanks.
I am having one of those days myself. I love that picture. It is a very curious thing and very beautiful. Great quote too. Cheers!
tonight i sat outside at a coffee shop, let the wind blow my hair, sipped and ice tea, and just let myself be…
it was perfect…
i love your alien-like gentle sand dollar.
