The Journey
March 18, 2009The Journey
Above the mountains
the geese turn into
the light again
Painting their
black silhouettes
on an open sky.
Sometimes everything
has to be
inscribed across
the heavens
so you can find
the one line
already written
inside you.
Sometimes it takes
a great sky
to find that
small, bright
and indescribable
wedge of freedom
in your own heart.
Sometimes with
the bones of the black
sticks left when the fire
has gone out
someone has written
something new
in the ashes of your life.
You are not leaving
you are arriving.
~ David Whyte ~

Thanks for the David Whyte moment today. I so needed to hear this reminder:
You are not leaving
you are arriving
I so love his poems. I saw his (relatively) new prose book, The Three Marriages: Reimagining Work, Self and Relationship and plan to get soon.
lovely. and so timely. thank you for this. and for the beautiful work that you do.
i love this photograph.
“…someone has written something new in the ashes of your life.” It sounds like music when you say those words doesn’t it? Lately – going through a separation, I find myself so inept at putting my feelings into words – but then I read something like this and it suddenly gels and helps to bring clarity. The veil gets lifted for a moment and I can see the ground in front of me clearly enough to take a few more steps in the right direction. Thanks Swirly…
I have never read David Whyte before, so thanking you. I love the
‘so you can find
the one line
already written
inside you’
Beautiful, you, just beautiful.
