I married my current husban when my kids were teens. In my experience the most important thing is for the step parent be a friend to the kids, don't try to step in and replace the absent Mom or Dad. By friend I dobn't mean put up with unacceptable stuff, but be there for the kid, listen, pay attention, learn from them and hopefully they will learn from you. I have seen her in London and known of The Work (and been using it) for about 6 years. One of my friends is currently in the USA, going to do a stint in Ojai (just up the road from you - right?) in a few weeks. Can't recommend her enough. Really.
