Tradition With a Twist

 Dear Diary,

For the past few years I've had a little Thanksgiving tradition of making a stack of "You are..." cards. You know - "You are beautiful", "You are charming" and the like. Anyone who asked for one received it in the mail (until I ran out), and I always loved hearing from someone who said they received exactly what they needed.

This year I'd like to add a little twist to this project - I'd like to ask anyone and everyone to make these cards and send them to me so that I can pass them along to The Dream Foundation to distribute however they'd like. The Dream Foundation is a Santa Barbara-based organization that I have worked with for more than a decade. Back in the day, their greeting card inventory was kept full with donations from Swirly, last year they received enough copies of Ordinary Sparkling Moments to give to all of their fundraising gala guests, and this year I'd like to offer them something even more personal. And that's where anyone reading this (um, that's YOU) comes in.

Here's the other part of this project - my 11-year old godson is currently raising money for a UK soccer trip. His moves on the soccer field have already caught the attention of the Olympic Development Team - not bad for a Type 1 diabetic! In exchange for my contribution to his fundraising, he'll be helping me get all of these cards organized and wrapped up for delivery to The Dream Foundation .

So there are all kinds of ways this project is going to inspire and support someone amazing individuals!!

(On that note, if you feel like adding a dollar bill (or two) along with your cards, I will pass it along to my godson for his journey, or you can make a donation right here.)

When I told The Dream Foundation what I was up to, here is what they had to say about how they would use these cards:

1Send to our dreamers. We can put them with itineraries, dream boxes and checks. You are Loved, Courageous, Unique, Cherished, Inspiring, Treasured, Authentic, Glorious, Exceptional, Extraordinary...

2. Send to the children of our dreamers that are being sent toys from our Toy Program. You are Loved, Amazing, Treasured, Special...

3. Send to our donors who so graciously support dreams. You are Valued, Loved, Appreciated, Respected, Treasured, Admired, Noble, Well-thought-of, Magnificent, Great-hearted, Distinguished, Adored, Admired, Generous, Endearing, Exceptional Unparalleled, Adored, The Best...

4. Send to our volunteers, both locally and across the country...

To all my readers:  Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create as many cards as you'd like, each with a "You are..." message. Size can be anything from a business card up to 5" x 7". They don't have to be fancy, but they do need to be pretty. Send me an email if you're game and I'll give you the rest of the details.
